Mrs. Antonie Coursey, 87, of Cave Spring, died Sunday evening, October 29, 2023 at her home following a short illness.
The former Antonie Steuerwald, she was born January 30, 1936 in Wolfakirechen, Germany, a daughter of the late Joseph and Maria Steuerwald. Having received her degrees in nursing from Coosa Valley Tech about the same time her boys were graduating high school, Mrs. Coursey was a retired L.P. N. and later a R.N., and had been associated with Redmond Hospital in Rome, the 97th General Hospital in Frankfort, Germany, and then the Sunbelt Nursing Home in Rome. Raised as a communicant of the Catholic Church, and Catholic at heart, Mrs. Cousey attended the First Baptist Church of Cave Spring for a number of years.
She was married to Wayne H. Cousey on October 3, 1958 and was preceded in death by him October 31, 2019. Besides her husband and her parents, she was also preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Coursey is survived by four sons, Bobby Coursey of Lindale, Alvin Coursey of Cave Spring, Robert Coursey and his wife Amy of Kennesaw, and Tommy Coursey and his wife Ruth of Douglasville. One sister, Mrs. Maria Hackl of Pfarrkirchen, Germany, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Coursey will be held Thursday afternoon, November 2, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. at John House’s Cave Spring Chapel with Rev. Ricky Studdard officiating. Colby Coursey, Kane Coursey, David Coursey, Chris Wallace, Caleb Cantrell and Tarvis Sprayberry will serve as pallbearers.
Interment will follow in the family lot in the Cave Spring Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
