Mrs. Wilma Davis Obituary

Mrs. Wilma Davis, age 90, died Monday morning, May 24, 2024 at Cave Spring Manor where she had made her home for the past couple of years. The former Wilma Pearl Hester, she was born in Woodland, Alabama October 12, 1933, a daughter of the late Hugh N. Hester and the late Minnie Pearl Richardson Hester. She was a graduate of Berry College, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Mrs. Davis taught at Alto Park Elementary, the Cave Spring School, and then spent some 25 years teaching at the Georgia School for the Deaf.

Mrs. Davis was a member of the Cave Spring United Methodist Church, and was a former member of the Cave Spring Ruritan Club, the Cave Spring Square Dancers, and the Retired Educators of Floyd County.

Mrs. Davis was married to Bill Davis July 5, 1958 and was preceded in death by him August 9, 2021. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Jeff Hester, Moody Hester, Clyde Hester, Wallace Hester and James Hester, and by four sisters, Mrs. Omie Burgess, Mrs. Bettie McClain, Mrs. Macie Hendrix, and Mrs. Mary Ann Gaines. 

Survivors include her son, Roger Scott Davis and his wife Crystal of Cave Spring; her daughter, Mrs. Lisa Davis Messel and her husband George of Waco, Georgia; and six grand-children, Rachel Davis Spardlin, Amy Davis (Harry) Pietrouchie, Seth (Victoria) Davis, Tammy (Sam) Lee, Allison (D. J.) Byrum, and Raegan Messel. Four great-grand-children, Davis Spardlin, Aubrey Spardlin, Kindsley Davis and Johan Bryum and two brothers, Morgan Hester of LaGrange and Willis Hester of Ringgold also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Davis were held Thursday afternoon, May 30, 2024 at the Cave Spring United Methodist Church at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Natalie Faulkner and Rev. Keith Drew officiating. Burial followed in the family lot of the Cave Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers included George Messell, D. J. Byrum, Sam Lee, Michael Craig and Seth Davis.

The family received friends at the church Thursday from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour.
