Ms. Louise Whorton Obituary

Ms. Glenda Louise Whorton, age 79, of Lindale, died unexpectedly Monday morning, May 13, 2024 in a Rome care facility following a brief illness..

Ms. Whorton was born in Cherokee County, Alabama on September 11, 1944, a daughter of the late Porter Hugh Whorton and the late Josie Louise Osborne Whorton. Ms. Whorton worked at several places, Lindale Mills, Galey and Lord and Berry College among them. She was of the Baptist faith and in the past had attended the Fairview Baptist Church in Lindale. She enjoyed crafting, baking, catering, and raising flowers and was fond of supporting the law enforcement community and those that took in and cared for stray pets. She loved her family, her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Ms. Whorton was preceded in death by two sisters, Ms. Sue Whorton and Mrs. Farris Snead, by two brothers, Glenn Whorton and Porter Earl Whorton, and by a great-grand-daughter Kaitlyn Sims.

Survivors include three children, Melody (Arthor) Touchstone of Cave Spring, Timmy R. Grimes of Lindale and Kim Kelley of Alabama; and four grandchildren, Tammy (Desmond Irvin) Grimes, Kimberly Grimes, Timothy Grimes and Michael (Melissa) Grimes. Six great-grandchildren, Hogan Henderson, Jacob Grimes, Winter Sims, Olivia Irvin, Mathew Grimes and Emma Grimes; a sister, Mrs. Linda (Harvel) Sandford and a brother, Mack Whorton also survive.

Funeral services for Ms. Whorton were held Friday afternoon, May 17, 2024 at 3:00 PM EDT at John House’s Cave Spring Chapel. Interment followed in the family lot of the Providence Cemetery. Pallbearers included Timothy Grimes, Michael Grimes, Jacob Grimes, Hogan Henderson, Desmond Irvin, Porter Standfordand Glenn Hamrick.

The family received friends from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour Friday at the funeral home.
